Veterans Expedition Therapy is dedicated to improving mental health in veteran community by connecting veterans and their families with the outdoors, improving quality of life, and reduce social isolation through meaningful personal connections
To provide a community of support for veterans seeking growth and healing with family and friends in the outdoors
Veterans Expedition Therapy is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in Colorado committed to helping veterans in a non-traditional wilderness therapy setting. We are founded and operated by combat veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
Experiencing mental health issues can be an incredibly scary experience. When these experiences happen, veterans are not thinking with rational thought, all while fear, anxiety, anger, embarrassment, depression, and helplessness are taking over. They’re operating on what’s known as your “lizard brain.” Rational thought is no longer being used so we need to get veterans to calm down and ground themselves, so they can make good rational decisions in a time of need.
We’ve taken the well-known term of endearment “Embrace the S.U.C.K.” and developed an acronym to help veterans understand what’s happening to them in that moment and give veterans a plan of action to get to safety.
Stop what you’re doing immediately! Recognize that something is not right.
Understand that these thoughts you’re having, although unsettling, are perfectly normal for people who have experienced tragedies.
Change your scenery immediately. Remove yourself from the situation and call a friend.
Know that you are loved! Know that if you do not have a support system, we are here for you and will get you to the help you need. Suicide only passes your pain on to your loved ones and it spreads like wildfire.
Your support and contributions enable us to provide awesome expeditions for veterans! Your donations are greatly appreciated and help fund our mission!
We understand that group expeditions may not be for everyone. Please contact us about individual or small group expeditions!
